Good evening. The murderer who killed Elle Edwards after firing indiscriminately at a crowded pub on Christmas Eve has been sentenced to life with a minimum term of 48 years.

Members of Elle Edwards’ family shouted “goodbye lad”, “scumbag” and “rat” as Connor Chapman, 23, was taken down from the dock at Liverpool Crown Court

Chapman fired a Skorpion submachine gun at a group of people from a rival housing estate outside the Lighthouse Inn, in Wallasey, Wirral. Ms Edwards was a “wholly innocent” bystander who was killed after being struck in the head by two bullets, writes Will Bolton.

An eight-year-old girl is in a life-threatening condition following an incident in Wimbledon in which a Land Rover careered into a private primary school killing one of her classmates, police have said. 

The Year 3 pupil was rushed to hospital following the incident on Thursday morning at the Study Preparatory School, reports Martin Evans

A woman in her 40s, who is understood to be a parent of one of the pupils at the school, also remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Sir Keir Starmer said Sadiq Khan has “no choice” but to expand the Ulez emissions scheme to outer London amid a Labour row on the issue. 

The comments came after Danny Beales, the party’s candidate in the Uxbridge by-election, said it was “not the right time to extend Ulez in outer London”, in a direct challenge to the Labour Mayor of London. 

Siobhain McDonagh, the Labour MP for Mitcham and Morden, writes in The Telegraph that there’s nothing fair about the Ulez expansion.
