A fisherman tried to warn surfers that a “big, angry” great white shark was circling near Granites Beach hours before a 28-year-old was mauled in the shallows.
Lance Appleby, from Port Lincoln, went missing near Streaky Bay on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula just after 7pm local time on Thursday.
The experienced surfer’s board was discovered sporting a bite mark but so far there has been no sign of a body.
Police called off the search on Friday night but said they would continue in the morning.
