A farm worker has died after falling 30 feet from the roof of a greenhouse while trying to evade US immigration agents.
The man’s death was announced by the United Farm Workers of America on Friday, a day after agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) swooped on a legal cannabis operation in Camarillo, north of Los Angeles. Another farm in Carpinteria was also raided.
Several farmworkers were hurt during the raid, with one dying of injuries sustained during an effort to escape, said Elizabeth Strater, national vice president of the United Farm Workers.
Several US media outlets named the dead worker as Jaime Alanis.
