Farage: Trump giving Russia ‘far too much’ in Ukraine peace talks

Donald Trump is giving Russia “far too much” ground in Ukraine peace talks, Nigel Farage has said.

The Reform UK leader said his party would “absolutely not” be “100 per cent” aligned with the White House on the approach to ceasefire negotiations.

He also said he would allow chlorine-washed chicken to be sold in the UK as part of a free trade deal with the US.

Mr Trump has agreed to the Kremlin’s demands that international sanctions be lifted in return for a partial truce in the Black Sea, as part of his wider push for peace in Ukraine.

He is also pushing for an unprecedented new deal with Kyiv that would give America control over Ukrainian minerals and energy assets.

On Friday, Mr Farage said Moscow appeared to be getting “far too much” ground in negotiations with the US, putting him at odds with Mr Trump, his long-term ally.

The Reform leader told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “It’s quite right to aim for peace, but we can’t have a peace that turns Putin into a winner, so I would not be 100 per cent with where his team is right now, absolutely not.”

Challenged over previous comments in which he had appeared to say Nato and Ukraine had provoked Russia’s invasion, he said: “There’s no point looking back then, we are where we are now.

“We want a peace deal, surely everybody wants a peace deal, but it needs to be equitable. Right at the moment, it appears Russia is getting far too much.”

Pressed on whether Mr Trump was giving Mr Putin “too much ground”, he said: “At the moment, that’s the way it looks.

“Now, there may be things going on behind the scenes on the Russian side that we don’t know. But at the moment, that’s the worry.”
