A Pulitzer-prize-winning political cartoonist quit her job at the Washington Post after her sketch depicting Jeff Bezos grovelling before Donald Trump was axed.
Ann Telnaes’s rejected cartoon showed billionaire newspaper owner and other tech moguls kneeling and holding up bags of money at the president-elect’s feet.
The cartoonist, who has worked for the left-leaning newspaper for almost two decades, said it was the first time she “had a cartoon killed because of who or what I chose to aim my pen at.”
The image that Ms Telnaes shared on Substack also depicted Mickey Mouse lying flat on the floor. The cartoon mouse is the symbol of the Disney Company, which owns ABC News. The television network recently reached a $15 million (£12 million) settlement with Mr Trump after he sued for defamation over reporting on his sexual abuse trial in New York.
Ms Telnaes wrote that while her previous sketches had been rejected, this was the first time that had happened because of her “point of view.”
“That’s a game changer... and dangerous for a free press,” she said.
