Two men have been arrested after an explosive was found under a local TV news car in the same state where Charlie Kirk was shot dead.
Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, allegedly placed the incendiary device under the vehicle owned by FOX 13 in Salt Lake City.
FBI investigators determined the device was real and had been lit but “failed to function”.
After it was found, police tracked the suspects to their home in Magna, Utah, where they allegedly found two “hoax weapons of mass destruction” which the suspects claimed were actually real, the arrest report states.
That led to the evacuation of the home and the nearby neighbourhood.
‘Is he dead yet’
Kelly Bird, a spokesperson for Unified Fire Authority Investigations, said it deployed bomb technicians to make the devices safe, Axios reported.
Salt Lake City is 41 miles North of Orem, where Mr Kirk was shot dead on Sept 10 while giving a talk at a university.
The two suspects are accused of threat of terrorism, possessing weapons of mass destruction, and possessing explosive devices, among other charges, court records indicate.
It is unclear whether they have obtained legal representation yet.
Footage shot outside of the home of the two arrested men by FOX 13 showed a sign which read: “Is he dead yet”, an apparent reference to Donald Trump.
Another sign read: “Let’s Go Taco” which appears to be mocking Mr Trump for his habit of backing off the imposition of tariffs at the last minute.
