An Estonian rapper has caused a stir in Italy after he won the nomination to represent his country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with a song poking fun at Italians as coffee-drinking, spaghetti-eating, cigarette-smoking mafiosi.
Tommy Cash won Estonia’s national talent contest, Eesti Laul, last weekend with his song Espresso Macchiato.
During his performance in Tallinn, Cash sang in broken English and Italian with stereotypical references to coffee, smoking, spaghetti and gangsters.
“Ciao bella, I’m Tomaso, addicted to tobacco. Mi like mi coffee very importante,” Cash sang in the first verse, while men dressed in black danced beside him.
He goes on to sing: “Mi money numeroso, I work around the clocko. That’s why I’m sweating like a mafioso.”
In his song Cash also says: “Life is like spaghetti, it’s hard until you make it.”
