Erik Menendez has been denied parole more than three decades after he and his brother, Lyle, shot and killed their parents in their Beverly Hills home.
The California parole board ruled on Thursday that Erik, now 54, should not be released because his continued misbehaviour in prison showed he was still a threat to the public.
“I believe in redemption, or I wouldn’t be doing this job,” parole commissioner Robert Barton told Erik, at the conclusion of the marathon 10-hour hearing.
“But based on the legal standards, we find that you continue to pose an unreasonable risk to public safety.”
Erik will have the option to re-apply for parole in three years. His brother, Lyle, will appear before the board on Friday for his own parole hearing.
