Ellen DeGeneres seriously injured woman in car crash, lawsuit claims

Ellen DeGeneres has been accused of causing a car crash that left a woman seriously injured.

The talk show host is being sued over the incident at four-way intersection in Santa Barbara County, California, during which she allegedly “T-boned” a woman’s car.

The lawsuit alleges DeGeneres’s “negligent conduct” caused the 67-year-old to plough into a car which had “stopped for [a] stop sign... [and] made sure there were no other vehicles at the intersection”.

The complaint, filed in Los Angeles and seen by Fox News, continues: “As she was proceeding straight through the intersection, suddenly and without any warning, plaintiff’s vehicle was t-boned from the right by the vehicle driven by Ellen DeGeneres, injuring [her].

“Ellen DeGeneres entered the intersection without stopping at the stop sign.”

‘Multiple serious injuries’

The lawsuit claims the “conduct” of DeGeneres “was a substantial factor in causing [the] plaintiff’s multiple serious personal injuries and damages stemming therefrom.”

The accident also led to a “loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and anxiety,” the legal complaint states.

The woman involved is seeking compensation for lost wages, hospital and medical expenses, general damages and loss of earning capacity relating to the 2023 incident, according to reports.

The American moved from California to the Cotswolds in November 2024 with her wife, the actress Portia di Rossi, 52.

Asked in July whether reports that she moved because of Mr Trump were correct, DeGeneres said “yes”.

Speaking to Richard Bacon at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, DeGeneres said she and her wife had bought a “part-time house” and had intended to spend up to four months a year in the UK, but that changed following the election.

“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in’,” she told the BBC. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here’.”

A spokesperson for DeGeneres was contacted for comment.
