Donald Trump promises to scrap ‘inconvenient’ daylight saving time

Donald Trump has pledged to scrap “inconvenient” daylight saving time (DST) when he enters the White House next month.

The president-elect described the practice of adjusting the clocks twice a year, which was introduced in the US more than a century ago, as “very costly to our nation”.

However, the move will require congressional approval, and may be opposed by some of Mr Trump’s closest allies who have previously argued in favour of instituting DST all year.

“The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t!” Mr Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our nation.”
