The DJ Nick Grimshaw and his mother have been reportedly targeted by a masked gang of thieves in Ibiza who raided his luxury apartment.

He had rented the villa on the party island to celebrate his 40th birthday with his family.

It was the former Radio 1 DJ’s second holiday to Ibiza of the summer but he has now returned home after the villa became the latest to be targeted.

The Sun reported that Grimshaw, who shot to fame 12 years ago, was joined by his immediate family including his mum Eileen and his fiancé Mesh Henry.

Previous attacks, believed to have been by the same gang, have seen luxury villas targeted by pumping sedative gas into the properties. The gangs then break in wearing hazmat suits and raid the villas.

It is believed that although shaken, Grimshaw, his friends and family were not hurt.

A source told The Sun: “There have been a spate of attacks in luxury villas across Ibiza this summer.

“Sadly Nick’s villa was on the target list – simply due it being known for being used by high net worth clients. The gang would have had no idea who he was. Sadly it’s a case of the wrong place at the wrong time but it’s scary to say the least.

“Nick was obviously upset but thought best to keep things off social media. At the end of the day it was meant to be a private low-key break with his family.”

Grimshaw is believed to be now safely back at his home in London with his fiancé.

Before the robbery Grimshaw had posted on Instagram in a now deleted post, where he could be seen beaming away as he sunbathed outside his villa. It was captioned: “Waking up 40,”

Grimshaw was last week pictured in Ibiza enjoying a night out with his niece Liv and fiancé where they ate ice creams.

He stars alongside Liv on Celebrity Gogglebox and in July had posted pictures of his earlier trip showing him partying and posing with friends.

He captioned the post: “If football’s coming home maybe no one will notice if I just stay here.”

Grimshaw became a household name in 2012 when he replaced the long-standing Chris Moyles as host of the Radio 1 Breakfast show.

He went on to star on X Factor in 2015 where he took over from Louis Walsh as a judge and has also appeared as a contestant on The Great British Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer.

Grimshaw’s agent has been approached for comment.
