Disney has scaled back the Hollywood premiere of its Snow White remake after the film was plagued by a string of controversies.
The entertainment giant is limiting coverage to photographers and an in-house crew and will not be giving media outlets the opportunity to interview the film’s cast and creatives on the red carpet.
The PR campaign for the movie, which will be screened in Los Angeles on Saturday, has been beset with problems including Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler’s conflicting views about the war in Gaza.
Zegler, who plays Snow White, and served in the Israel Defense Forces for two years, has been vocally supportive of her birthplace since the Oct 7 attacks by Hamas.
Gadot, depicting the Evil Queen, has said on social media that she has been “public with a pro-Palestine stance since 2021”.
Problems have also arisen over the film’s casting, its approach to the seven dwarfs, as well as Zegler’s suggestion that the new adaptation will feature a feminist spin.
The launch of the $269 million (£207 million) film directed by Marc Web will be celebrated at a pre-party and screening at the El Capitan Theatre with Gadot and Zegler both expected to attend.
