David Walliams has reached a settlement with Britain’s Got Talent’s production company after private remarks he made about contestants were leaked.
Fremantle said it was “sincerely sorry” that private conversations were published, and that it had reached an “amicable resolution” with Walliams.
The comedian, who appeared on the show between 2012 and 2022, was suing the company for misuse of private information, as well as for breaching UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.
He resigned from the show last year when a transcript of comments he made about contestants was leaked to the public.
It was revealed that Mr Walliams had referred to an older performer as a “c---” three times when he was out of earshot, after they auditioned unsuccessfully for the ITV talent show.
He also said of a female contestant: “She’s like the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f--- them, but you don’t.”
High Court documents released last month revealed Mr Walliams was accusing the company of causing him psychiatric harm and financial loss.
‘Sincerely sorry’
A Fremantle spokesman said on Monday: “We are pleased that we have achieved an amicable resolution of this dispute with David.
“We are sincerely sorry that his private conversations when a judge on Britain’s Got Talent were published, and the great distress this caused David.
“We have reviewed our production practices on the show to ensure they fully respect the expectations of our talent whilst satisfying the requirements of the show.
“We have enjoyed a great relationship with David over many years.
“We thank David for being an important part of the Britain’s Got Talent family and the enduring success of the show and hope to have opportunities to work with him in the future.”
