Denmark’s 18-year-old Princess Isabella has caused a stir online after posing for a strikingly modern photograph in which she is holding her mobile phone.

The daughter of Queen Mary and King Frederik X is seen smiling for the camera in a tiara – and holding her mobile phone, in a break with royal protocol.

The photograph, taken in celebration of her 18th birthday, was posted on the Danish royal family’s official website and social media channels.

It was captured by Steen Evald, who has been an official photographer for the family for over two decades, in the Knight’s Hall of Frederik VIII’s Palace in Amalienborg. The portrait promptly went viral, with social media users hailing the image’s modern touch.
