Donald Trump has turned Chicago into a “war zone” by deploying the National Guard to the city, the governor of Illinois said.
JB Pritzker, a prominent Democrat, accused Mr Trump of attempting to cause “mayhem” and condemned a military-style immigration raid carried out by federal agents on Saturday night.
Mr Trump ordered the deployment of 300 National Guard troops to Chicago on Saturday to quell “ongoing riots and lawlessness” amid clashes between federal officers and protesters.
Mr Pritzker, who had refused an ultimatum by the US president to deploy the Guard himself, told Mr Trump to “get the heck out” of the city.
