A riot in Cardiff may have been sparked by false rumours that two teenagers killed in a crash were chased by police, officials have said.
Alun Michael, the Police and Crime Commissioner in South Wales, said a fatal road accident involving an off-road bike or scooter appeared to have triggered for widespread disorder in the Welsh capital on Monday night.
Around a dozen police officers were injured during the disturbance during which saw Molotov cocktails hurled as missiles and cars torched on the street in Ely. The windscreen of at least one service vehicle was smashed.
Mr Michael told the BBC on Tuesday that investigations were under way to establish what caused the violence to unfold, but that early indications suggest false rumours of a police chase in the fatal accident may have played a part.
