Police are searching for a British journalist who has gone missing in Brazil.
Charlotte Peet, 32, a freelance reporter who has worked for The Times, The London Standard and The Telegraph, has now been missing for nearly a fortnight.
She was last heard from on February 8, when she told a friend she was in Sao Paulo and was planning to travel to Rio de Janeiro.
After several days of no contact, her family and friends became concerned and notified the Brazilian police, who have confirmed an investigation is underway.
On Tuesday, the Brazilian Foreign Press Association called on police to step up their search saying it was “worried” about Peet’s disappearance.
Investigation underway
Edmar Figueiredo, the association president, said: “The Brazilian Foreign Press Association (ACIE) would like to publicly express its concern about the disappearance of 32-year-old British journalist Charlotte Alice Peet and show solidarity with her family and friends.”
“As a freelance journalist, Charlotte knew some of the foreign correspondents who are members of the Brazilian Foreign Press Association. The ACIE and its leadership calls on the relevant authorities to intensify their work to try to find the missing British journalist as soon as possible.”
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has been reported as missing in Brazil and are in contact with the local authorities.”
Ms Peet studied philosophy at the University of Bristol before completing a journalism masters’ degree at City University, according to her LinkedIn.
She has worked as a freelance journalist for nine years, and has previously lived in Brazil, where she worked for the Rio Times. She returned briefly to London before moving back to South America in November 2024.
