A midnight intervention by Boris Johnson about the report into whether he misled MPs over lockdown-breaking parties in Downing Street has complicated its release.
A spokesman for the House of Commons Privileges Committee announced that Mr Johnson had sent a letter at 11.57pm on Monday, though its contents were not disclosed.
The development could explain why the report, which had been expected to be released on Tuesday, is now not expected to be published until later in the week.
It is expected to conclude that the former prime minister misled MPs when he insisted no rules or guidance were broken over partygate.
Mr Johnson resigned as an MP last week after being shown sections of the draft report.
A spokesman for the Privileges Committee said on Tuesday: “A letter enclosing further representations from Mr Johnson was received by the Committee at 11:57pm last night. The Committee is dealing with these and will report promptly.”
