Joe Biden’s first interview since he quit the 2024 presidential race is set to air today, with the president expected to explain why he withdrew his candidacy.
The pre-recorded programme will air on Sunday on CBS News at 2pm UK time, (9am EST).
During the interview, Mr Biden reflects on “on the stakes of an election, on democracy, and on his family from inside the White House residence,” said Robert Costa, who conducted the interview.
Mr Biden pulled out of the race after a bitter campaign within his party to oust him. Questions over his fitness for office were at the forefront along with his ability to erase Donald Trump’s poll lead in the wake of his attempted assassination.
The president announced he was exiting the race and endorsing his vice-president Kamala Haris as the Democratic nominee on July 21.
Since then, Mr Biden has largely retreated from public view amid claims he is still furious at his forced withdrawal from the 2024 race.
