The BBC weather app forecast temperatures of just 7C after it was hit with a technical glitch.

Next week could see highs of 31C on Sunday - but the broadcaster’s app said it would hit just 8C at the highest.

BBC weather confirmed in a statement they were working with data suppliers on a fix - but on Friday morning some users were still experiencing the glitch.

The issue also affected television broadcasts as BBC News At Ten viewers saw temperatures of 8C forecast every day from Monday to Thursday in Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff and London.

Social media users were baffled, taking to Twitter to share their confusion.

Simon Mayo wrote: “Trouble at the BBC weather app. Or it’s autumn tomorrow.”

Emily turner said: “Ummm… @bbcweather- is this the climate apocalypse and my iPhone doesn’t know about it or are you publishing winter forecasts?”

Kat Storr commented: “Tooting’s weather for next week looks a bit weird… 8C? #bbcweather.”

And Tom Savage joked: “Is this the way we find out that the world is ending? #bbcweather.”

According to the Met Office, today’s forecast will see “a bright start in the east, but cloud already across western areas will move east with outbreaks of mostly light rain, however some heavier bursts are possible”.

It is also going to be turning breezier, the forecaster said.

In a statement, BBC weather said: “Our apologies for the incorrect temperatures appearing on the website and app. We are working with our data suppliers to fix this fault.”
