The BBC was forced to make an on-air correction after referring to Palestinian convicts as “hostages”.
The broadcaster was also criticised by Israel after using the terminology for Palestinian prisoners jailed for atrocities committed during the Oct 7 massacre.
BBC News had broadcast the report on the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners with an erroneous strap-line across the bottom of the screen. This stated that there were “concerns about the condition of hostages on both sides”.
