A BBC editor may sue Owen Jones after claims of Israel bias led to him receiving death threats.
The Guardian columnist accused Raffi Berg, the BBC’s Middle East online editor, of failing to uphold impartiality in coverage of the Gaza conflict.
Mr Jones’s long-read piece was published on news website Drop Site with the headline, “The BBC’s Civil War on Gaza”.
He spoke to 13 anonymous BBC staffers who shared concerns about Mr Berg’s bias.
Mr Jones wrote: “Several allege that Berg ‘micromanages’ this section, ensuring that it fails to uphold impartiality.”
He added that a BBC employee claimed Mr Berg’s “entire job is to water down everything that’s too critical of Israel”.
Mr Berg was also accused of ignoring email complaints and being guilty of “numerous examples of problematic editing” and “reframing” stories in favour of Israel’s narratives, causing a “ripple effect” across the corporation.
