BBC director-general fights for job after Glastonbury crisis

Tim Davie is fighting for his job as director-general of the BBC after the Culture Secretary demanded answers over the Glastonbury furore.

Samir Shah, the chairman, was summoned by Lisa Nandy, the Culture Secretary, to discuss the crisis on Tuesday night, following a meeting of the BBC board earlier in the day.

It came after Ms Nandy criticised Mr Davie’s handling of recent scandals and anti-Semitism rows when she addressed the Commons on Monday, saying there was “a problem of leadership” at the BBC.

Mr Davie is also braced for the release of a report on the corporation’s handling of a botched documentary on Gaza narrated by the son of a Hamas official, which is expected to be highly critical of the BBC News operation.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism called for Mr Davie to be sacked on Tuesday following the Glastonbury debacle, in which the BBC broadcast chants of “death, death to the IDF” by the rap group Bob Vylan.
