A director of the German media group behind Politico has criticised “woke” journalists in a row over an article about Israel’s bombing of Gaza.
Martin Varsavsky, a Spain-based entrepreneur who serves on the board of Axel Springer, accused Politico of “one-sided Hamas support” in a story about Israeli air strikes that killed hundreds of people in Gaza overnight.
Sharing the article on social media site X, Mr Varsavsky said the story “fails to mention that the airstrikes were aimed at eliminating top Hamas military and that Israel was successful at doing so”.
He added that it quoted casualty figures from Hamas that were “not believed to be accurate”.
The article in question was written by the Associated Press (AP) news agency and published on Politico’s website on Tuesday.
