AfD investigated by police after fake ‘deportation tickets’ posted to immigrants

German police are investigating the far-Right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party over claims it put election flyers mocked up as “deportation tickets” in the letterboxes of foreigners.

The flyers, which look like plane tickets with the passenger listed as “illegal immigrant” were circulated in the southwestern city of Karlsruhe.

The destination is listed as “safe country of origin” and the date of travel is set as Feb 23, election day in Germany.

On the reverse side of the flyers is a list of the AfD’s key migration policies, such as deporting illegal immigrants and stopping the “Islamisation” of Germany.

According to German newspaper Die Zeit, the tickets were posted into the letterboxes of migrants, prompting police in Karlsruhe to launch an investigation into suspected incitement against foreigners.

The flyers were created by the local Karlsruhe branch of AfD which denies that they deliberately targeted foreigners and insists they are lawful. A spokesman for the party’s national office said they had no involvement in the flyers.
