Joe Biden is being accused of “punishing” states that decline to adopt his abortion-for-all ideology by withholding grants.

The Daily Mail says a coalition of Republican lawmakers is working to change that.

Leading the charge on a new piece of legislation that would undermine Biden’s scheming on the abortion issue is Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., who previously has pointed out that the Biden administration the “most pro-abortion White House in history.”

The problem being targeted is that, Republicans say, Biden is blocking millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded family planning grant money from going to states that fail to meet his abortion demands.

“This bill stops HHS’ discrimination against states that value the life of every child and ensure access to high quality and affordable health care,” the senator explained in the report.

Specifically, the plan requires that in funding programs under Title X of the Public Health Service Act, the Department of Health and Human Services “may not discriminate against eligible states, individuals, or other entities for refusing to counsel or refer for abortions.”

Lankford charges that under Secretary Xavier Becerra, a radically pro-abortion former California state official picked by Biden for his cabinet, the department is violating its own stated goal of protecting and strengthening “equitable access to high quality and affordable health care.”

The senator charged, “The Biden administration’s obsession with increasing the number of abortions in America is so extreme they are willing to deny needy Oklahomans healthcare access unless Oklahoma agrees to promote abortion.”

The move developed after Biden suspended $4.5 million intended for Oklahoma’s Department of Health simply because the state agency would not refer residents for abortion.

The Mail explained the issue: “The senator said the state has an ‘obligation’ to abide by laws, and therefore it is ‘absurd’ that the administration would enact this punishment on Oklahoma’s health department for following federal statute – which ‘explicitly forbids’ using federal funds to refer for abortions.”

Lankford said residents in his state rely on the state’s family planning program, which includes cancer screening, pregnancy prevention. breast exams and depression screenings.

Sens. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., and Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., joined Lankford in supporting the legislation.
