The judge in Donald Trump’s criminal case on Monday restricted which documents the former president can review and discuss on social media. 

New York State Supreme Court justice Juan Merchan granted Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg’s request to bar Trump from looking at evidence deemed sensitive without his lawyers present. He also barred Trump from discussing evidence on social media sites. Bragg brought 34 felony counts of falsifying business records against Trump in February surrounding alleged hush money payments to a porn star. 

Bragg and his office pointed to Trump’s past critical comments of their office and judges as reason to prevent him from discussing evidence.

The ruling comes two weeks after a federal judge denied Bragg’s attempt to stop a House GOP investigation into the charges and case. Bragg sought to stop Republican Jim Jordan (Ohio) from subpoenaing one of his former employees. 

Bragg is also facing criticism from Manhattan residents over his handling of rising violent crime. House Republicans held a hearing last month in New York City where victims told their stories, including a bodega clerk who killed a criminal in self-defense and was subsequently charged by Bragg for murder.
