: Tuesday, April 25, is the four-year anniversary of Biden’s entry into the 2020 presidential election, when he unveiled a poorly paraphrased version of Donald Trump’s iconic slogan, “Make American Great Again.” At a press conference in Wilmington, Del., the former vice president declared, “America is coming back like we used to be.”
: April 25 is also the 231st anniversary of the first execution carried out by guillotine, the iconic instrument of socialist terror. On that day in 1792, convicted criminal Nicholas Jacques Pelletier was decapitated for assaulting and burglarizing a passerby in Paris.
The execution took place at the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville in front of what is now the Paris city hall. A large crowd came out to see the novel contraption put to use, though these onlookers were reportedly disappointed by the guillotine’s efficiency and expressed a preference for more brutal and entertaining instruments of execution, such as the gallows or the breaking wheel.
