When Joe Biden abruptly reversed himself recently, and revealed that there would be more barriers built along the southern U.S. border, the explanation was not hard to find.
It was Byron York, the chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, who explained, “A presidential campaign is underway. Might that be a factor in this? Of course it is. What Biden is hoping to do with this action is to satisfy those Democrats who have become troubled by the border disaster. They will ignore the massive hypocrisy of Biden restarting Trump’s wall if they can say that something is being done about the problem.”
For years now, ever since he took office, Biden has insisted that a wall on America’s southern border wouldn’t help the illegal alien crisis he created when he took office and trashed all of President Donald Trump’s border security programs.
But now it seems his reversal isn’t collecting the political capital that was expected.
A report in the Washington Examiner notes that the GOP is continuing to point to illegal border crossings as one of Biden’s failures.
“In a weekend news dump, the Biden administration just announced 269,735 illegal immigrants were encountered at the southern border in September — the highest monthly total ever recorded and a cap on the worst fiscal year on record,” Jake Schneider, a Republican National Committee spokesman, included in a newsletter. “Since Biden took office, 7.8+ million illegal immigrants have crossed the border.”
The messaging is the same as what the GOP has been delivering to American voters since Biden first ascended to the Oval Office and destroyed Trump’s border security measures.
The report explained that Biden’s Department of Homeland Security recently said it would build 20 new miles of southern border wall, a plan that is in direct violation of Biden’s campaign promise not to build “another foot” of barrier.
Now, Biden has been explaining he was required by law to add to the border wall.
In another setback, the Biden DHS has a new policy that will have DHS deporting Venezuelan illegals back to their home country.
The Examiner reported noted, “The policy changes could signal that the Biden administration is hoping to lower the border crossing figures Republicans love to amplify each month, even though administration officials have downplayed their significance. The impact of those decisions will begin being felt when next month’s numbers are released.”
But Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee have released their own information, revealing that 95.8% of “inadmissible aliens” who used a Biden administration computer program to log their entrance into the U.S. were released.
“[DHS] Secretary [Alejandro] Mayorkas has utterly abused the CBP One app in his quest for open borders,” charged committee chief Mark Green, T-Tenn. “These numbers are proof that Mayorkas’s operation is a smokescreen for the mass release of individuals into this country who would otherwise have zero claim to be admitted.”
WND had reported York pointed out that Biden pledged “not another foot” of border wall, but now is “building it.”
He called the flip-flop by Biden a “bombshell.”
But he explained Biden’s change comes after “three disastrous years of mass border incursions by illegal crossers.”
Republican Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida called Biden, on the border, the “Master of disaster.”
“I wish he would actually do the right thing. I think that would come after the 2024 elections when he goes down to just a terrible defeat, and frankly Joe Biden deserves to be defeated,” Donalds said. “Nothing is working right. We’re talking about the border, but everything is going wrong. He is the master of disaster, Joe Biden, he has got to be defeated. It is just that simple.”
