People should become familiar with the THIRD AMENDMENT to the United States Constitution.  It is there for a very specific reason.

¹I would argue the armed person protecting the president or vice-president meets the general guidelines for a soldier in peacetime.

The U.S. Secret Service, assigned to the detail of Vice-President Kamala Harris, broke into a private residence in order to avail themselves and their contingents to the bathroom facilities of an American citizen without permission.  The USSS covered the camera with tape, then picked the lock.

Why it matters?  Because the ideology of the U.S. Secret Service is currently a significant part of the discussion around who tried to kill President Donald Trump.  The example above tells you exactly what the ideology is like within the institution of the USSS.

USSS Federal Agents broke into the building, because they knew they could break into the building.

Perhaps USSS Federal Agents participated in an assassination attempt of President Trump, because they knew they could participate in the assignation attempt.

President Trump survived an assassination attempt…  And the U.S. media, together with congress and the United States government, just moved right along to the next thing.
