There is only one reasonable way to look at this, the Lightbringer, Teh One, the messiah of all progressive enlightenment, must have changed his mind and acquiesced to the reality that his diminishing ego was more valuable than her demise.  If the Lightbringer had stood firm, she would still be in place.
