White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will brief reporters Wednesday afternoon as the Trump administration seeks to distance itself from controversy around files related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The Justice Department and FBI issued a joint memo earlier this month finding “no evidence” that the convicted sex offender kept a client “blacklist” — despite previous comments suggesting the opposite — and confirming that Epstein’s death in 2019 was ruled a suicide. The administration has been pressed by both sides of the aisle over its handling of the case amid perceived mixed messaging, and calls to release more files have been mounting.
President Trump has stood behind his team despite the scrutiny and urged his supporters to move on from the topic.
The press briefing is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT.
