The Senate on Friday afternoon will again take up dueling stopgap funding bills that could reopen the government, as the lapse in funding stretches into a third day.
Senate Republicans need the support of at least five more Democrats to push the House-passed continuing resolution, which would turn the lights back on until at least Nov. 21. The majority of Democratic lawmakers, however, have argued that a funding bill should include health care concessions.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and their caucuses, have largely placed blame for the shutdown on each other.
The vote is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
