House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and GOP congressional leaders will give remarks Wednesday morning as the government shutdown starts its second week.

The Senate is expected to once again take votes on dueling stopgap funding bills. Republicans have pressed their Democratic colleagues to pass the GOP-led “clean” continuing resolution that would fund the government at previous spending levels until mid-November.

The press conference also comes as Johnson signaled support for furloughed federal workers receiving back pay despite President Trump’s suggestion that it is not guaranteed. He is also facing pressure for delaying the swear-in ceremony of newly-elected Rep. Adalita Grijalva (D-Ariz.).

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
