House Democratic leaders will speak with reporters Wednesday afternoon as the Senate takes up another vote on stopgap funding bills that could reopen the government a week after the shutdown began.
Democrats have thus far held firm on their demands for health care concessions to be included in any funding bill. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) rejected a short-term extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies Tuesday and earlier this week dismissed President Trump’s suggestion that the health tax credits, which expire at the end of the year, could be looked into at a later date.
The New York Democrat has also pushed back on Trump’s suggestion that furloughed federal employees may not receive back pay.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at noon EDT.
