Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is testifying before the Senate on Thursday morning on the Trump administration’s health agenda.
Kennedy is expected to face questioning over the recent shakeup of leadership at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) after he moved to fire former CDC director Susan Monarez and several top leaders at the agency resigned in protest.
He will be tasked with showing that the high-profile exits will not leave the nation more vulnerable to disease outbreaks and other public health threats.
In defending Monarez’s ouster, Kennedy and the White House pointed to policies at the agency that did not align with the administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” agenda. The health chief has faced calls for his resignation over the decision.
The hearing before the Senate Finance Committee is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. EDT.
