House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) gave remarks Friday morning, as Democrats and Republicans have struggled to make any progress on a deal to reopen the government.
Frustrations are high among lawmakers as Democrats refuse to buck on health care demands and Republicans cast the blame for the government shutdown on the left. The stalemate has let to tensions, including sparring between Jeffries and his Republican colleagues after he refused to support a short-term extension of health insurance premiums.
Senators departed Washington late Thursday after another vote on the stopgap bill failed to move the needle. The lapse in funding is now expected to hit the two-week mark, as Monday is a federal holiday.
The press conference was scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. EDT.
