Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel that sparked the war in Gaza.

During the event, he was expected to unveil bipartisan legislation that will require school curriculums to educate students about the attack and rising antisemitism across the U.S.

“Gottheimer’s bipartisan October 7th Remembrance Education Act will instruct the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to build a model curriculum for schools to teach the heinous and brutal attacks committed on October 7th, the history of antisemitism and how it played a role in the attacks, and denial and distortion as a form of antisemitism in the wake of the attacks,” the press release reads.

The event also came as Israel and Hamas are weighing a ceasefire deal facilitated by President Trump. Direct negotiations around ending the war began on Monday.

The press conference was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT.
