NextImg:Trump presses for Univision return to YouTube: ‘VERY BAD for Republicans’

President Trump is calling for Univision to return to YouTube TV, saying its recent removal is “VERY BAD” for the GOP ahead of the 2026 midterms.

“I hope Univision, a great and very popular Hispanic Network, can get BACK onto the very amazing Google/YouTube,” the president said late Saturday on his Truth Social platform.

“It has been taken out of their package, which is VERY BAD for Republicans in the upcoming Midterms.”

YouTube TV, owned by Google, dropped Univision and its local affiliates from its streaming package last Tuesday amid contract disputes. Univision, owned by TelevisaUnivision, had pushed back against YouTube TV’s plan to include its channel as part of a Spanish-language package instead of its basic plan.

In a Wednesday release, TelevisaUnivision called Google’s decision “tone deaf” and “egregious,” noting its desire to keep the public informed about the ongoing government shutdown.

“Google has made an unfortunate mistake that is easily reversible, and we are always open to finding constructive ways for Hispanics to regain access to their trusted and critical content,” TelevisaUnivision added. “We remain steadfast in advocating for our audience and ensuring that YouTube TV subscribers know they have many options to continue watching Univision’s programming through other providers.”

In October, 2024, Trump took questions from voters at a Univision town hall in Miami, weeks before his election victory.

The president noted that in his Saturday post and claimed he “set a Republican Record in Hispanic Voting.”

According to the Pew Research Center, Trump received support from 48 percent of Hispanic voters in the 2024 race, 3 percentage points behind former Vice President Kamala Harris.

That surpassed former President George W. Bush, who garnered 44 percent of support from Hispanic voters in his 2004 reelection victory, for the highest percentage of Hispanic support for a Republican nominee since at least 1980, according to the Pew Research Center.

“TelevisaUnivision has over 160 million subscribers and billions of views across YouTube, where they generate ad revenue from their content,” a spokesperson for YouTube told The Hill. “On our paid live TV subscription service, YouTube TV, however, TelevisaUnivision only represents a tiny fraction of overall consumption. We remain open to negotiating an agreement that reflects their performance on YouTube TV.

“Until then, their content remains unavailable on YouTube TV. We encourage viewers to continue watching TelevisaUnivision’s content on their YouTube channels or on their streaming platform, ViX.”
