NextImg:Trump hits lowest approval rating so far in Marquette Law School poll

President Trump’s approval rating has hit its lowest figure yet in polling by Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee, which released its latest figures Wednesday.

Forty-three percent of respondents polled in September said they approve of Trump’s performance, while 57 percent disapproved, the poll stated.

The 43 percent is the lowest figure so far in the poll for Trump this year. At the start of his second term, Trump had a 48 percent approval rating. It dropped to 46 percent in March and 45 percent in July before hitting the new low in September. Further, 57 percent in the September poll disapproved of Trump, compared with 52 percent who disapproved of him at the beginning of the year.

The 14-point gap between Trump’s September approval and disapproval ratings is also at a high in the Marquette poll.

Trump’s approval among Republican, independent and Democratic voters have all taken dips.

Among Republicans, 81 percent said they approve of his job performance, but this is down from 89 percent in January. Twenty-seven percent of independents approved of Trump in September, down from 37 percent in January.

Democratic approval was low at 9 percent in January and rose and fell over the next several months before reaching 8 percent in September, according to the poll.

Trump was above 50 percent on border security, which has been a consistently strong issue for him across a number of polls, and in his response to Charlie Kirk’s assassination Sept. 10.

Fifty-five percent of respondents approved of how Trump has handled border security, compared to 45 percent who disapproved. While 53 percent approved of his response to Kirk’s death, while 47 percent disapproved.

However, Trump’s handling of other issues face widespread disapproval, including 72 percent on his handling of new information pertaining to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and 71 percent on his handling of inflation.

Trump’s handling of two wars also received negative reviews, with 67 percent disapproving of his handling of the Russia-Ukraine war and 66 percent voicing disapproval of his handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

The president’s approval rating from Marquette mirrors that of his approval rating from a recent New York Times/Siena University poll from Monday.

The following day, a YouGov/Economist poll showed Trump’s approval reaching its lowest point of his second term at 39 percent. Fifty-seven percent in that poll also disapproved of the Trump administration.

The Marquette survey was conducted Sept. 12-15 and included 1,043 respondents. The margin of error is 3.3 percentage points.
