A second detainee shot during an attack on a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office was confirmed dead on Tuesday by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).

The organization said Miguel Ángel García-Hernández, 32, succumbed to fatal injuries after being removed from life support following the Sept. 24 sniper attack. His family is now crowdsourcing funds for burial services.

A separate detainee, Norlan Guzmán-Fuentes, 37, died immediately from the shooting while a different individual remains in critical condition.

Inscribed on the bullets found at the scene were the words, “ANTI-ICE.” 

However, officials are still working to determine a motive for the crime. Authorities said the lone gunman took his own life after shooting three others. No ICE agents or law enforcement officials were harmed.

“​​LULAC stands in full solidarity with the García-Hernández family, carrying their message and calling on all people to honor his memory by rejecting violence and ending divisive rhetoric,” the organization said in a statement following the announcement of the man’s death. 

“Every individual’s life deserves dignity, including that of Latino immigrants, millions of whom contribute daily to the fabric of America. This hatred must stop. It is time for our nation to come together in compassion, unity, and respect for human life,” LULAC added. 

García-Hernández was expecting his fifth child, according to the organization’s news release.

“My husband Miguel was a good man, a loving father, and the provider for our family,” his wife, Stephany Gauffeny said in a statement. “We had just bought our first home together, and he worked hard every single day to make sure our children had what they needed. His death is a senseless tragedy that has left our family shattered. I do not know how to explain to our children that their father is gone.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem shared condolences immediately after learning of the shooting last week.

“Our prayers are with the families of those killed and our ICE law enforcement. This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE,” Noem said in a statement, calling the shooting a “wake up call.”

“For months, we’ve been warning politicians and the media to tone down their rhetoric about ICE law enforcement before someone was killed,” she added.
