A taxi driver hit six pedestrians after jumping a curb in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, sending three people to the hospital for injuries, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department confirmed to The Hill.

The taxi driver experienced a medical episode, the spokesperson said, causing the vehicle to drive onto the sidewalk and strike the pedestrians. The incident occurred near Macy’s flagship store at Herald Square around 4 p.m.

The spokesperson said two people, including a 9-year-old boy, were taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, and a pedestrian and the taxi driver were taken to Bellevue Hospital. All were in stable condition, including the other three pedestrians who refused medical attention.

The 9-year-old boy sustained a laceration to his right thigh, a 41-year-old woman sustained an injury to her head, and a 49-year-old woman sustained a leg injury, according to the spokesperson. The 58-year-old male taxi driver was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

A video at the scene shows a taxi with its bumper fallen off and a tow truck later carrying away the taxi.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made, the spokesperson said.
