Four people were killed and a fifth seriously wounded in a shooting Monday at a Midtown Manhattan office tower. A New York City police officer is among the victims.

Law enforcement received a call reporting shots fired at around 6:28 p.m., New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a press conference.

“The building security camera footage shows the shooter enter the lobby, turn right and immediately open fire on an NYPD officer,” Tisch told reporters. He then shoots a woman who took cover behind a pillar and proceeds through the lobby spraying it with gunfire.”

Here’s what else to know about the shooting at 345 Park Ave.

Shane Tamura was identified by law enforcement as the gunman. Tamura, 27, drove to New York from Las Vegas hours before the mass shooting.

Inside his vehicle, officers found a rifle case with rounds, a loaded revolver, ammunition and magazines, and a backpack with prescribed medication, Tisch said.

Police say he had a “documented mental health history.”

“His motives are still under investigation, and we are working to understand why he targeted this particular location,” the New York Police commissioner said.

The shootings took place in the lobby and 33rd floor of the 345 Park Avenue building. The office tower houses major companies, including the NFL headquarters, KPMG and Blackstone, Tisch said. Rudin Management owns the 44-story building. It is one of the largest privately owned real estate companies in the city.

After the lobby shootings, Tamura took an elevator to the 33rd floor. There, Tamura fired off shots inside the Rudin Management suite. He then turned the gun on himself, authorities said.

Mayor Eric Adams said in interviews on Tuesday that Tamura was headed for the NFL offices but took the wrong elevators, according to The Associated Press.

Tamura left a note on his body that claimed he suffered from CTE, a degenerative brain disease from repeated head trauma that has become associated with contact football. The note, which referenced the NFL, said his brain should be studied, a person familiar with it told AP.

New York Police officer Didarul Islam, 36, was the first person shot and killed on Monday. He immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh and joined the force in December 2021, according to authorities.

He was off duty working as security for Rudin Management Co., when the gunman opened fire on him. Islam leaves behind two children and a pregnant wife.

Investment firm Blackstone identified the woman killed in the lobby as one of its executives, Wesley LePatner, 43.

Two other victims have not been identified.

Investigators said Tamura used an M4 rifle during the mass shooting. The assault rifle is traditionally used by members of the military, according to Gun Digest

After shooting five individuals, the gunman fatally shot himself.
