The White House is preparing for Friday’s meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin by staying loose in its expectations.
Trump spoke with European allies about Russia’s war in Ukraine early Wednesday, just two days before he is set to meet Putin in Alaska. He told reporters the call was “very good.”
“I would rate it a 10,” he added, later stating that Russia will face “severe consequences” if it does not halt the war in Ukraine.
The call with European leaders came as they work to guard against the worst-case scenario: Trump aligning with Putin to push a bad deal for Ukraine.
Earlier Wednesday, Trump revealed the next class of Kennedy Center Honors recipients. Honorees include actor Sylvester Stallone, country music star George Strait, disco singer Gloria Gaynor, actor Michael Crawford and the rock band Kiss. He also said he’d host the event.
