LIVE Video: Trump greets Israeli prime minister
President Trump has high-stakes topics on his agenda Monday, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visits the White House, just ahead of top congressional Democrats.
Trump and Netanyahu are expected to discuss a new proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza. The Israeli leader said Sunday that details were still being worked out. Arab officials briefed on the plan say the 21-point proposal calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages held by Hamas within 48 hours and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, The Associated Press reported.
The leaders are scheduled to answer reporters’ questions after they meet.
With less than two days until government funding runs out, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will meet with Trump at the White House.
Democrats are digging in their heels on the extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits that expire at the end of the year. Many in the party think they need to do something drastic to push back on the Trump administration and buck up their own demoralized voters.
The Senate is in session this week and has a vote teed up for Monday afternoon on the stopgap funding bill passed by the House earlier this month.
