The House on Friday passed its version of the annual defense policy bill, a must-pass package whose fate was thrown into doubt with the addition of conservative amendments on abortion, transgender rights and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) was widely opposed by Democrats, an unusual outcome for the annual legislative which routinely enjoys broad bipartisan support.
The bill, which sets an $886 billion budget for the nation’s armed force, passed 219-210, with four Republicans voting against the bill and four Democrats voting for it.
