A flight headed to Hawaii was evacuated at San Diego International Airport on Tuesday after an alleged bomb threat was made by an individual on board.

“During pushback from the gate, a guest was overheard making a threat to the safety of our aircraft. As a precaution, the captain immediately taxied the Airbus A330 to a safe location on the airfield, where it was met with local and federal law enforcement and guests were safely deplaned,” a Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson said in a statement.

The plane was slated to fly to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii, according to FlightAware.

The jet was carrying 283 passengers and 10 crew members on board, according to the airline.

“We appreciate their understanding during this situation and apologize for any concern this may have caused,” the airline said. “We are working to get all guests to Honolulu as quickly as possible.”

Various law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.

“Nothing suspicious was found on the aircraft. All 293 people onboard were evacuated from the aircraft and transported by bus to a safe area,” the Port of San Diego Police said in a statement to The Hill.

“There is no threat to the public or travelers, and operations at San Diego International Airport are normal. Harbor Police continues to investigate and will provide more information when it is available. If anyone has any information regarding the incident, they are encouraged to call the Harbor Police non-emergency line at 619.686.6272.”

A flight attendant discovered a note with a bomb threat on the bathroom door on a flight headed to Cincinnati, Ohio, in late April. The flight was halted and all passengers were evacuated. No bomb was found.

In September 2021, Florida authorities arrested a woman who falsely claimed that a bomb was on a plane at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. No explosives were discovered.
