The FBI’s raid at the home of President Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton is drawing renewed attention to the president’s past criticism of the former White House official.

Trump and Bolton have long clashed following their time working together in Trump’s first term, and the president has previously called for the hawkish former adviser to face jail time over material included in his 2020 book, “The Room Where It Happened.”

“He released massive amounts of classified, and confidential, but classified information. That’s illegal and you go to jail for that,” Trump said in a June 2020 interview with Fox News’s John Roberts, calling Bolton’s actions “treasonous.”

“He shouldn’t have written a book, OK?” Trump said, adding, “Classified information — he should go to jail for that for many, many years. I don’t know what’s going to happen, and it’s up to the Justice Department, but I can tell you, they’re not happy.”

In a separate interview with “Fox & Friends” co-anchor Brian Kilmeade around the same time, Trump called Bolton “a criminal” and repeated his claims about the former National Security Council head including classified material in his book.

“I believe, frankly, he should go to jail for that,” the president said.

CNN reported Friday that the FBI’s search at Bolton’s home is related to his 2020 book, which offered a critical account of Trump’s first administration.

The book portrayed Trump as “stunningly uninformed on how to run the White House, let alone the huge federal government” and claimed he “saw conspiracies behind rocks.”

Trump administration officials argued at the time the book contained classified information and unsuccessfully tried to block its publication while opening an investigation. Bolton’s lawyer disputed whether the manuscript contained classified material.

In 2021, the DOJ under the Biden administration dropped the lawsuit and ended its probe.

Bolton has continued to vocally criticize Trump’s foreign policy, particularly his handling of the Russia-Ukraine war, which he was posting about on social media as recently as Friday morning.

The FBI confirmed Friday there was “court-authorized law enforcement activity” in the area near Bolton’s home in Bethesda, Md., outside Washington, D.C. The Associated Press reported that Bolton has not been taken into custody nor has he been charged with any crimes.

Early in the morning, amid reports of federal agents raiding the former national security official’s home, FBI Director Kash Patel posted on social media — without naming Bolton — that “NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino and Vice President Vance all reshared the post.

“Public corruption will not be tolerated,” Bongino wrote.
