Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) on Thursday said President Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize if the current peace plan between Israel and Hamas doesn’t fall apart.

“Do you think the president deserves a Nobel Peace Prize?” Fox News’s Aishah Hasnie asked Fetterman on “America’s Newsroom.”

“Well, I mean, if this sticks. I think that the whole point of having a Nobel Peace Prize is for ending wars and promoting peace,” Fetterman responded.

“And I’m going to make a direct appeal to the president, you know, I hope he chooses to provide the Tomahawks to the Ukrainians too, and give them the tools that they need to push back against the [Russians],” he added.

On Wednesday, President Trump announced a ceasefire had been reached between Israel and Hamas, paving the way for the freedom of 20 living hostages and relief for the approximately 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. Since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages during the assault, more than 67,000 Palestinians have died, according to Gaza Health Ministry statistics reported by The Associated Press.

The war has also caused infrastructure devastation and a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, leading to increasing pressure on Israel from the international community to end the conflict.

The president said the two sides backed “the first Phase” of a peace plan he announced in late September, an important step in the process.

“This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

“This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”

When reached for comment, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in an emailed statement that the president “deserves the Nobel Peace Prize many times over – his direct involvement in major conflicts, leveraging tools from America’s military might to our superior consumer market, has brought peace to decades-long wars around the world.”
