Billionaire Elon Musk is leading the charge on a campaign by right-wing media personalities and influencers urging Americans to cancel their Netflix subscriptions over an animated show that features a transgender character.
Musk is promoting a series of posts from “LibsofTikTok,” Benny Johnson and other conservatives urging users cancel Netflix over the show, “Dead End: Paranormal Park.”
“Transgender propaganda isn’t just quietly lurking in the background on Netflix,” one user wrote in a post promoted by Musk on X. “They are actively pushing it on users.”
The X post linked to a list of movies and show on the streamer celebrating Trans Day of Visibility.
“Yes,” Musk wrote this week in a response to another user who wrote “Have you canceled Netflix yet.”
Netflix has not commented on Musk’s post’s directly, but the show’s creator Hamish Steele reacted to the billionaire’s posts on BlueSky on Tuesday writing “It’s probably going to be a very odd day.”
Steele also wrote that it was not true that the show was being promoted by Netflix, writing that Netflix was not promoting it now, according to a report in Variety.
“Dead End: Paranormal Park” was actually canceled by Netflix in 2023. It was an original show for the streamer, which streamed two seasons of the show.
Those criticizing the scene in the show in which the main character says he is transgender, argued that the show was aimed at children. It is rated by Neflix as TV-Y7, meaning children 7 or older.
Netflix has exploded in popularity and subscriber base in recent years, growing from an online movie and television streamer to one of the largest providers of entertainment and sports programming in the world.
Musk has long railed against liberals and Democrats for their stances on issues ranging from gender to race and immigration.
Musk, in a post of his own on Tuesday wrote “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids,” and shared a cartoon depicting Netflix as a Trojan Horse with the words “Transgender Woke Agenda” sneaking inside a castle labeled “your kids.”
“This is not okay,” the billionaire wrote in a separate post replying to a user who was expressing outrage over the show’s content.
